Dive into These Mermaid of Venice Destinations

An orange beach umbrella, pebbled sand and a fresh Aperol Spritz. If you’re dreaming of an Italian getaway, you’re not alone!

Italy just opened up for tourism. So, I’m excited to invite my main character, Gia Acquaviva, to the stage to give us the scoop on some of the glam locations featured in Mermaid of Venice. But what’s the one thing she’ll never do? Tell us where the bodies are buried.

Ciao. I really do not like the spotlight, and I always avoid crowds. I am only doing this because Jincey told me that it might help her sell more books. Here we are. Shall we start with Venice?

VENICE:

Hotel Cipriani

You absolutely must take the hotel’s charming Riva to arrive at this Venetian paradise. With lush gardens and vistas to die for, this is a place you will not soon forget.

Surrounded by water, Hotel Cipriani is one of the best places to watch the light change on the canals throughout the day. The bellini was invented here by Giuseppe Cipriani. I drink this cocktail in summer, when the hot winds, the Scirocco, arrive from Northern Africa. I never stay at the hotel because I live nearby, but I love to come and have even rented out the bar to have a drink alone.

ROME: La Scelta di Goethe

On the bustling Via del Corso in Roma is a delightful boutique hotel called La Scelta di Goethe. The Rinità dei Monti suite boasts a rooftop Jacuzzi overlooking the city. After a soak and a cocktail, walk the streets to experience Rome’s living history and feel the beating heart of Italy.

I always stay at La Scelta di Goethe in the biggest suite. Sometimes I arrange a helicopter to fly me out of the city to avoid being around the traffic and tourists. To be perfectly honest, I hate Rome. Truly, I only come when I have to visit my lawyer, Donatella Sapienti. She is also called La Nonna.

SICILY: Mount Etna

Always active, Mongibello, or Mount Etna as it is also known, is the ruby in the crown of Sicily’s gorgeous landscape. In Sicily you will find unreal beaches, winding roads and unforgettable views.

I am not allowed to say much about Sicily, Jincey tells me. She does not want me to reveal any details of the second book about me, Mermaid of Sicily. I love the sun, so normally I rent a yacht and have the captain take me to a very secluded beach. Tumbling into the sea, the Turkish Steps look like the Cliffs of Dover, only more beautiful.
